What to Know Before You Staff Los Angeles
California's labor rules shape an LA quote more than most. Here's what to plan for, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Daily Overtime and Double Time
California counts overtime by the day. Hours past 8 in a workday are paid at time and a half, and hours past 12 are double time. A seventh straight day in the same workweek has its own overtime rules. A 12-hour festival day costs more than two 6-hour shifts, so we build schedules with that in mind.
Meal and Rest Breaks
Staff get a 30-minute meal break on shifts over 5 hours, which can only be waived when the whole shift is 6 hours or less, plus a 10-minute rest break for about every 4 hours worked. On a busy booth, plan breaks in rotation or add a floater so the activation never goes dark.
Plan for the Drive
LA work is spread out: Inglewood for SoFi and Hollywood Park, Anaheim for the convention center, Redondo Beach for BeachLife, Indio for the desert festivals. Set call times with travel and parking in mind. Local minimum wages differ by city too, and the City of LA rate applies only inside city limits.

Los Angeles Staffing Questions
Do you use local staff in Los Angeles?
Yes. LA programs are staffed from our Southern California roster, and we've staffed Coachella in Indio every year since 2016. For tours that include LA, we staff the other stops from our teams in those cities.
How far ahead should we book for Coachella, Stagecoach or BeachLife?
As early as you can. Those festivals land within a few weeks of each other in April and May, they draw on the same experienced brand ambassadors, and the best people get booked first. Even on a short timeline, send the request. We respond to every quote within 48 hours.
How does California overtime change the quote?
More than in most states. California pays time and a half after 8 hours in a day and double time after 12, with extra rules for a seventh straight day in a workweek. Staff also get meal and rest breaks during the shift. We'll flag anything like that in your quote.
Does it matter where in Southern California the event is?
It affects planning. An activation in Inglewood, Anaheim, Redondo Beach or Indio means different drive times, parking and call times, and some cities set their own minimum wage. Tell us the venue up front and we'll build the schedule and quote around it.
